A Big Moment for Bothán

Last week was a pretty special one for us.

Bothán has been featured in Dwell Magazine, as part of its Prefab Profiles series looking at people and businesses shaping the future of prefabricated housing.

For me personally, it’s a big moment.

Since starting Yardbox, being featured in Dwell has always been one of those ambitions I had in the back of my mind. I’ve followed the magazine for years and always admired the homes, architecture and ideas it showcases, so to now see Bothán featured there feels slightly surreal.

It also feels like a good point to reflect on how far the project has come.

Over the last year and more, Bothán has gone from an idea into a fully finished home that people can now visit, walk through and imagine themselves living in.

There has been a huge amount of work behind the scenes to get it to this point - developing the design, refining the construction, choosing the materials, building the showroom and making sure the finished space feels like a genuine home rather than simply a modular building.

That was always the goal.

We wanted to create a smaller home that could help families stay closer together - whether for a parent, an adult child, or someone looking for a more attainable route to independent living.

The design itself takes inspiration from traditional Irish buildings and reinterprets them for modern life.

Inspired by tradition, designed for today.

The Dwell article tells that story in much more detail, looking at the thinking behind Bothán, our approach to prefabrication, the design and materials, and where we hope to take the product next.

To see something designed and built here in County Down now being shared with Dwell’s audience around the world is something I’m incredibly proud of.

There is still a long way to go, but this feels like one of those milestones worth taking a moment to appreciate.
